THE LOOK EAST POLICY Programme
The Look East Policy Programme began with the launch of the Look East Policy by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1982. This programme is sponsored by the Public Service Department and UiTM has been appointed to conduct the Japanese Language Intensive Course for the Technical and Industrial Training Group (In-Plant). Beginning 1990 the programme conducted an Intensive Japanese course for the Japan Technical Group and Future Malaysian Japanese Language Teachers’ Group. However, due to the increasing number of students in the programme, the Japan Technical Group was transferred to University Technology Malaysia (UTM) in 1992. In 2005, the Japanese Language Intensive Course for the Technical and Industrial Training Group (In-Plant) was terminated while the course for the Future Malaysian Japanese Language Teachers’ Group was terminated in 2008. Beginning 2005, PETRONAS sent their sponsored students to this programme for a 3-month basic Japanese Language Intensive Course.

Malay language

Malay is a group of languages closely related to each other to the point of mutual intelligibility but that linguists consider to be separate languages.[citation needed] They are grouped into a group called "Local Malay", part of a larger group called "Malayan" within the Malayo-Polynesian branch of the Austronesian language family.[5][6][7] The various forms of Malay are spoken in Brunei, Indonesia (where the national language, Indonesian, is a variety of it), Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and southern Thailand.[8]

Malay is the official language of Brunei and Malaysia. In Malaysia, the language is also called Bahasa Malaysia. Singapore, Brunei and southern Thailand refer to the language as Bahasa Melayu ("Malay language"). Malay is the national language of Singapore. The national language of Indonesia is Indonesian, formally referred to as Bahasa Indonesia which literally translates as "Indonesian language". It is also called Bahasa Nasional (National Language) and Bahasa Persatuan/Pemersatu (Unifying Language) in Indonesia. Indonesian is also used in East Timor, a consequence of more than 20 years of Indonesian administration and is now a "working language" of that country.

Ketuanan Melayu

Ketuanan Melayu (Malay for Malay supremacy or Malay dominance[1]) is the claim that the Malay people are the tuan (masters) of Malaysia. The Malaysian Chinese and Indian-Malaysians who form a significant minority in Malaysia, are considered beholden to the Malays for granting them citizenship in return for special privileges as set out in Article 153 of the Constitution of Malaysia. This quid pro quo arrangement is usually referred to as the Malaysian social contract. The concept of ketuanan Melayu is usually referenced by politicians, particularly those from the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the most influential political party in Malaysia.

Malaysia

Essentially the wang of Asia, which is located to the north of their cousins who live on an even smaller island Singapore, Malaysia (also known as Bolehland) is a young nation of diverse cultures and races such as F1 Formula-1 and Nascar. The timezone of Malaysia is unique because it follows the system of +1/+2 PMT (Predetermined Meeting Time) which is 1 or 2 hours later than PMT. Most foreigners have difficulty adjusting to this new timezone as they tend to show up 1 or 2 hours earlier than their local counterparts. The nation is moving forward with a vision towards becoming a developed nation by the year 2020, 3030, 4040 or whatever catchy number.

Malaysia is made up of 13 states namely Selengor, Kedoh, Police,Thengganew, Kelentoh, Berak, Pening, Sembilan, Malacrap Johor Balu (just north of Singkaypoh), Sabah, Sarawek (which are essentially Malaysia's eastern colonies). The three federal territories Kuala Apek, PuteraUmno and Lawak don't count as states since they're too small, like Canada. Another common state that Malaysians have is denial (no lah, where got?), which incidentally, is a river in Egypt.
