Even though there are some sign of assimilation influence of foreign culture to outside esthetical but it still intact and strong until late of 18 century.

DPT - Programme Details

THE LOOK EAST POLICY Programme
The Look East Policy Programme began with the launch of the Look East Policy by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1982. This programme is sponsored by the Public Service Department and UiTM has been appointed to conduct the Japanese Language Intensive Course for the Technical and Industrial Training Group (In-Plant). Beginning 1990 the programme conducted an Intensive Japanese course for the Japan Technical Group and Future Malaysian Japanese Language Teachers’ Group. However, due to the increasing number of students in the programme, the Japan Technical Group was transferred to University Technology Malaysia (UTM) in 1992. In 2005, the Japanese Language Intensive Course for the Technical and Industrial Training Group (In-Plant) was terminated while the course for the Future Malaysian Japanese Language Teachers’ Group was terminated in 2008. Beginning 2005, PETRONAS sent their sponsored students to this programme for a 3-month basic Japanese Language Intensive Course.



Beginning 2009, The Japan Technical Group was transferred back to INTEC, UiTM for a 2 year matriculation course. The programme is formulated to assist students to attain the required level and skills in the Japanese Language and also to provide strong fundamental knowledge in Science and Mathematics so that they will be able to cope with the third year curriculum of the Japan National College of Technology (JNCT). The preparatory curriculum is designed to meet the requirements set by Monbukagakusho for admission into JNCT.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
1. Japan Technical Group
Students applying for this programme :
  • Must be Malaysian
  • Aged not more than 19 on 1 March of that year
  • Must pass their SPM and obtain at least 6C in Bahasa Melayu and Pengajian Islam/Pendidikan Moral
  • Must obtain at least 4B in the following subjects:
    • Additional Mathematics
    • Physics
    • Chemistry
    • Another subject not including Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Cina, Kesusasteraan Melayu, Pendidikan Seni and Pengetahuan Islam/Pengajian Moral
2. Petronas-Sponsored Students
Students applying for this programme must obtain a Grade 1 in their SPM with a maximum aggregate of 10 units and at least : A2 in Bahasa Inggeris, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics; C3 in Bahasa Malaysia, and a credit in Bahasa Inggeris 1119 (not compulsory but a plus point). The students should also be active in extra co-curricular activities and have good leadership skills.

SPECIAL FEATURES
In addition to academic studies, the students are also encouraged to participate in various activities held by the Japan Cultural Centre of Japan Foundation and by the Japanese Community Club in Kuala Lumpur in order to be familiarized to the Japanese culture and customs. These activities include the Japan Festival Ikebana class, Origami class, Bon Odori Celebration, Japanese Dance class and Film Shows, apart from hosting visiting students from Japan to provide authentic situations to familiarize students with the intricacies of social interaction and enhance their communication skills.
